A sleepy sea turtle on Ho'okipa beach, Maui
In the season of isolation during the 2020 pandemic, I revisited my first craft which is drawing. It took 3 months to complete and it gave me an opportunity to reflect on many areas in life. In summary, this bittersweet process became a reminder to celebrate all positive outcomes moving forward.
I travelled solo to beautiful Maui, Hawaii in 2017. The drawing is referenced from a snippet of a photograph which was taken on an analog camera, Olympus XA. I visited Ho’okipa beach in the town of Paia which is known to be windy with surfers cruising along the waves. And yet there was a group of sleeping sea turtles on the beach that made the view feel calm and peaceful.
